What is Bike Chico?
A celebration of bicycling with activities to gear the community to ride to school, work, shop and play during National Bike Month in May. The Butte Bicycle Coalition coordinates this campaign to welcome new and returning cyclists and offers a platform to strengthen their skills and solidify their commitment to cycling. Any group or individual may solicit the BBC to promote their bike related event under the umbrella of Bike Chico.

What is Bike Month
Sponsored by the League Of American Bicyclist, Bike Month is a warmer weather --usually-- opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Whether you bike to work or school; to save money or time; to preserve your health or the environment; to explore your community or get to your destination, get involved in Bike Month and help get more people in your community out riding too!
Did You Know?
-New bicycle commuters lose an average of 13 pounds during their first year of commuting and save almost a pound of CO2 per mile not driven from entering the atmosphere. Not to mention that it is a lot of fun to go by bike!
-Orville and Wilbur Wright, the brothers who built the first flying airplane, operated a small bike repair shop in Dayton, Ohio. They used their workshop to build the 1903 Wright Flyer.
-About 100 million bicycles are manufactured worldwide each year.
-Americans use their bicycles for less than one percent of all urban trips. Europeans bike in cities a lot more often—in Italy 5 percent of all trips are on bicycle, 30 percent in the Netherlands, and seven out of eight Dutch people over age 15 have a bike.
